Chickpeas
-
India contributes to 40% of the global production of chickpeas. The 2 types produced in India are Desi and Kabuli. Desi chickpeas are dark brown in colour and small in size while Kabuli chickpeas are creamy coloured and large in size.
Limited domestic consumption and surplus production make Kabuli
chickpeas the only pulse crop allowed for export from India. These seeds differ in size and are classified on the basis of seed count per US ounce.
