India accounts for 20% of the global production of rice, ranking second in the world. Indian rice can be classified into two categories – Basmati rice and Non-Basmati rice.

    Basmati Rice

Basmati literally means the "queen of fragrance" or "the perfumed one". Basmati rice is premium quality rice grown in the Indo-Gangetic plains, at the foot of the Himalayan sub ranges. The fertile alluvial soil, crisp cold air and sweet clean water provide the perfect conditions for its cultivation. India accounts for about 75% of the global production of basmati rice.

Basmati rice is broadly classified into the following major varieties:

Among the evolved varieties, Pusa 1121 is increasingly gaining popularity due to its length and elongation. Longulf offers all varieties of basmati rice as per requirement.

    Non-Basmati Rice

India produces several varieties of non-basmati rice in regions spread across the country. Non-Basmati rice is an item of staple consumption across the country and therefore an important constituent of the Indian household's food consumption budget. Exports of non-basmati are closely regulated by the Government through its Exim policy review with sufficient domestic availability and affordability being the key policy objectives.

Some of the varieties exported are:

    • - Permal P106
    • - Permal PR11
    • - IR36
    • - IR64
